5 Really Simple Ways to Boost Your Self-Esteem

Starting is always the hardest part, right?

Whenever you’re trying to make a change, it’s often difficult to know the simplest way to get started. That’s what the next few minutes is going to address.

Below, you’ll find some simple ways to boost your self-esteem and help you feel better about yourself.

Really simple ways to boost your self-esteem

1. Don’t label yourself negatively

Everyone has done something stupid. Some of us, several times 🫣

Don't use negative labelsBut, there’s a huge difference between telling yourself you’ve done something stupid and telling yourself your ARE stupid. And the same is true for every derogatory thing you say, or think about yourself.

The more often you label yourself as something you’ve done, or said, etc. the more you’ll start to believe it, and act in a way that proves it to yourself.

So, stop labelling yourself as timid, stupid, ugly, or awkward, etc. even when you’re joking about it.

Unfortunately, we’re much harder on ourselves that we are about the people around us. For example, would you tell a family member that they were stupid, or pointless? I thought not.

Yet, we tell ourselves these sorts of things all the time.

The simple way to stop it happening, is awareness. If you do something that’s out of character, or hurts someone’s feelings for example, just tell yourself – “I’ve hurt that person’s feelings”. There’s no reason to label yourself a ‘hurtful person’.

Speak positively about yourself. Visualize and label yourself using words like strong, confident, reliable, beautiful, unique, and courageous, and so on, even if you’re not sure you are yet.

When you strongly believe in yourself and act that way, these positive qualities will naturally show up. Our brain’s language is images, and visualization helps our brain to create new neural pathways to help us achieve the outcomes we want.

2. Celebrate small wins

This tip is very simple to achieve and makes a big difference to the way you feel about yourself.

Celebrate your small winsDid you wake up extra refreshed this morning? Have you finally finished that report for your boss? Did you get the opportunity to spend an evening reading your favorite book?

Wherever possible, celebrate the small victories in your life. An even better idea is to write them down in a diary, or journal.

If you write them out, on days when you’re feeling a little down, you can look back and remind yourself that things will get better again.

Celebrating your little wins is a great way to build your confidence, boost your self-esteem and start feeling good about yourself.

So, think about all the things you’ve accomplished so far, then write them down. Make a list of everything you’ve done that you feel proud of, or everything you’ve done well.

Then, when you need a reminder of your ability, or how you’re able to get things done, you’ve got some ready-made inspiration at hand.
