Don’t let Your Past Determine Your Future
If you’re starting a journey to improve your confidence, it’s good to know how you got where you are.
So, todays quick confidence tip is to examine your past experiences.
Don’t let your past determine your future. Understand how it got you to where you are now, then you can re-evaluate those decisions.
How to use your past to determine your future
Think back through your life and list some of the things – including past events, people and situations – that have affected your confidence or self-esteem.
Also, don’t just think about outside influences here. As much as you might not want to accept it, you’ve had a hand in building your low self-confidence as well.
So, also consider the things have you’ve done (or, more likely not done) that has helped to build your current situation?
In what way did these things affect you?
Could you have looked at these things in a different way, that wouldn’t have been so destructive?
Without making any judgements on the experience itself, consider how your attitudes, beliefs, communication style, actions, procrastination, etc. have created your life as it is now.
Write your thoughts down in your notebook.
Then think about how those same events could have been interpreted differently, to give you a more positive and more confident outlook.
Write those thoughts down too.
Once you have an understanding of how you got to where you are, you’re in a better position to move toward where you want to be.
So, start by attaching new feelings to your old experiences today.
