Why do some people have just a hobby, when for other people that same pastime becomes a lifetime passion filled with excitement and devotion?

The more we experience, the more we grow as a person and the better we’ll be at the things we try. The better we are at it, the more we’ll enjoy it…. whatever it is.

People often say things like…

“I dream of one day starting my own business”, or

“I dream of one day being a partner in the company”, or

“All I think about, is earning enough money to be able to retire early and then enjoy my life”.

The problem is, all dreams give you, is a pretty picture to think about.

True progress, in anything requires action. Even the smallest of actions move you closer to your goals.

Dreaming, or thinking about them does nothing!

Every day, just like every other living organism, if we’re not growing, we’re dying.

It’s so easy to stay the same today as we we’re yesterday, and to be the same tomorrow as we are today. But that’s not why you’re here is it?

To reach the parts of your life that are just out of your grasp, you need to grow a bit every day.

This quote by Abraham Maslow reminds us that no matter who we are today, it doesn’t have to mean that’s who we’ll be tomorrow.

Even though the wild monsters that hunt outside your comfort zone sometimes seem scary, you can defeat them!

Small, simple steps will get the job done.

Whenever you see a situation that can help you grow, think of a simple action you can take, to get you closer to the change.

After all, every marathon starts with one simple step. Every great discovery started with one simple action. Small steps can produce powerful changes.

Keep taking small steps and before you know it, you’ll be doing things you never thought possible.

Below, I’ve listed 20 things you can do, to help kick start your growth, boost your confidence and set you on the path to living a full life.

1. Focus:

Choose one thing, the one thing that’s most important to you in your personal development? By focusing on one item at a time, you can give it your full attention without distraction. Only once you’ve achieved, or at least made reasonable progress on that, should you move on.

2. Plan Your Development:

Planning is everything when it comes to your personal development. If you can set time targets and map what your progress should look like, it helps make it more realistic and gives you a structure to gauge your progress.

3. Wake Up Early:

Waking up early, is the simplest way to gain more time in your day. Even if the extra time is just spent, meditating, or making out your to-do list for the day, you’ve made progress from before.

4. Acknowledge Your Flaws:

Everyone has flaws. What’s most important is to acknowledge them, understand them and then take steps to address them.

5. Ask For Feedback:

As much as we try to improve, we will always have blind spots. Asking for feedback gives us an additional perspective. Other people see things in us that we just don’t always see in ourselves.

6. Learn From People Who Inspire You:

Think about the people you admire. The people who inspire you. What qualities do they have, that you want to have for yourself? Once you know, you can start to look at ways of achieving them.

7. Avoid Negative People:

Wherever you go, you’re bound to come into contact with negative people. Try not to spend too much time around them. Or, eventually, they’ll start to drag you down as well.

8. Stay Focused With ‘to-do’ Lists:

Try to start your day with a list of tasks you want to complete. You don’t always have to check everything off your list, but at least by having one, you’ll give yourself a structured plan for the day. That way, you can stay focussed and maximise the time you’ve got available.

9. Get Into Action:

Nothing changes without action. You can have all the information you think you need, but waiting, just in case there’s something more doesn’t get anything done. Taking action gives you immediate results to learn from.

10. Start a Handbook For Your Life:

Imagine you’re designing the perfect ‘You’. What would that person be like? What would their purpose be? What are their values and beliefs? What are their goals in life, etc?

11. Write a Letter From Your Future Self:

Where do you see yourself, 5 years from now? What kind of person will you be?
Imagine yourself as the person you want to be in five years time. Then, write a letter to your current self as that person, explaining all the things you’ve achieved. Then, start making small steps to become that future you.

12. Start a Journal:

Journaling is a great way to gain better self-awareness. It’s a simple, yet effective tool to track your progress over time and a great way to self-reflect. By noting down your fears and concerns, your successes and achievement and how each of those things made you feel emotionally, you’ll start to gain more insights about yourself. A journal gives you a baseline of where you are now, then helps to to see how far you’ve come, over time.

13. Start a Blog About Personal Development:

Some people like to share their journey with the World. If that’s you, why not start a personal blog and share your progress, while helping others who are trying to make improvements in their lives?

Meditation helps to create calm and helps release pressure and worry. Even just a few minutes each day is beneficial. Why not make meditation as one of your new daily habits?

Books are an amazing source of wisdom. By reading every day, you’re feeding your brain with concentrated knowledge. Even fiction books will help you to experience emotions and situations that can help you to become more confident.

Hobbies can help expose you to new situations, which in turn can stretch your comfort zone a little bit. It’s much easier to push yourself that little bit further, when it’s in pursuit of something you enjoy.

Just like starting a hobby, courses are a great way to gain new knowledge and skills. It doesn’t have to be a formal course, even short cheap, or free internet courses will all add vital experience and knowledge to your toolkit.

18. Have a Daily Exercise Routine:

Everyone could be in better shape. Feeling better mentally about yourself, also means feeling better about your physical shape. There’s lots of ways to get into better shape, mix it up until you find something you like, then make it a habit.

19. Show Kindness to People Around You:

You can never be too kind to someone. And kindness not only brings pleasure to the recipient, but it gives you an amazing boost as well. Being kind helps you to cultivate other qualities such as compassion, patience, and love.

20. Start a 30-day Challenge:

Set a small goal and give yourself 30 days to achieve it. The goal can be anything you like, as long as you need to step outside of your comfort zone a little bit.
